A vinyl Pink Panther figurine made in Hong Kong in 1971 for R Dakin Co. San Francisco, as part of their TV Cartoon Theatre range, © MirIsch-Geoffery. They are now quite rare even in the second-hand market.
The opening title sequence in the original 1963 'The Pink Panther' film was such a success that was adapted into a series of theatrical animated shorts, the first of which won the 1964 Oscar for Animated Short Film. From here grew the Pink Panther Cartoon series. These figures were faithful reproductions of the cartoon character.
This figurine has enjoyed a well traveled life since 1971 - from Hong Kong to San Francisco to Australia and London - but he has been well maintained and now needs to embark on a new adventure.
His condition is very good and he was never treated as a toy, but has been displayed for almost 55 years. His scarf was a gift in 1973 followed by his Santa hat some years later!
