Donald Friend (1915-1989) was an Australian artist and diarist who lived much of his life overseas and was the subject of much controversy. His art commonly had the theme of homo-eroticism and he made no secret of his sexual tendencies. More information is available online.

Because of his artistic talent he was well known to other artists who admired his visual skills and the cleverness of his diarising. Four of hs diaries were published posthumously by the National Library of Australia and it is visuals from these volumes that comprise this books, preceded by an introduction from well-known art critic and curator, Lou Klepac.
