If you know anything about WWII reproduction flight jackets you will know about the Good Wear Leather Company from Seattle Washington. Owned and operated by John Chapman. He has perfected recreating the iconic leather flight jacket from the many manufacturers who made them originally during World War II. (Please visit the website to learn more).
This original Good Wear flight jacket was made from start to finish by Mr. Chapman himself. He is a one man shop and is passionate about the A-2 and other leather jackets from the 1940’s and 1950’s. Size is 44 regular and dimensions are as follows: from armpit to armpit 21.5 inches. From shoulder seam to end of cuff 25 inches. From top of collar to bottom of jacket 25.5 inches. Just like the originals, these jackets are not oversized to fit oversized stomachs!
I am the second owner, non-smoker. I had the Army Air Corps emblem painted on the left sleeve by the artist Jerri Bergen who owns Victory Girl out of Upland California. There is also a leather name tag over the left breast as was common place during the war. This can either be left on or easily removed to put on your own personalized version.
Notice the “ditch whistle” fastened to the collar clasp. Made by the Acme Whistle Company of London, England, the same company that made them originally during World War II for the 8th Army Air Corps! Very cool history.
This A-2 is an exact reproduction of the one made by the Werber Sportswear Company from Newburgh New York. Stitch for stitch this is as close a reproduction you can find short of owning the real thing. Notice the green thread, which was correct for this company! The leather used is genuine horse leather which was vegetable tanned and not chemically tanned like most modern reproductions.
If you wanted to buy a brand new Good Wear A-2 it will cost you over $1500 and expect to wait 12 to 15 months to receive it. This jacket has honest wear, by me, which only adds to the authentic look and the unbelievable quality you will find nowhere else unless of course you have a time machine and you can travel back to the 1940’s and try to buy one yourself there! Good Wear Jackets are as rare as a flying B-17 these days so here is your chance to own one, if not the best, flight jacket on the market. 100% guarantee, if this does not fit you or you don’t like it, please send it back, minus shipping for a full refund. Good luck and keep ‘em flying’! ***ALSO PLEASE NOTE THE THREE PICS OF THE MODEL IS IN FACT JOHN CHAPMAN HIMSELF WEARING THIS EXACT JACKET. NOT ONE LIKE IT, BUT THIS ONE. OUTSTANDING!***
ARMPIT TO ARMPIT IS 22 INCHES. 22 INCHES EQUALS A 44 INCH CIRCUMFERENCE, WHICH IS A SIZE 44
