Product Description
Kyoto ware and Kiyomizu ware flourished in a town where the finest materials and artisans from across Japan gathered. The original bonsai pot “Heian Senzan” is produced by a kiln inheriting this tradition. Founded in 1922 in the Higashiyama Sennyūji area of Kyoto, near Heian Tōfukuji Temple and the spring where Sennyū was created, this kiln is now run by the fourth generation. It is the largest kiln specializing in Kyoto ware and Kiyomizu ware, known as Tōan. Through a fortunate connection, they partnered with KINBON to create these Kyoto-style Kiyomizu-yaki bonsai pots.
The mold is a resized version of a popular design used by Tofukuji Temple. Its soft form and depth accommodate even imposing trees. The glaze features the signature “Purple Crystal” unique to Kyoto-style Kiyomizu-yaki kilns. A base of elegant purple glaze forms beautiful crystalline patterns, creating a distinctive texture. The crystallization pattern is different on each piece, meaning no two have the same design. This allows you to enjoy a wide variety of crystalline forms. While mass-produced, each piece has the value of a one-of-a-kind work. The signature is “Sen'zan” and the kiln's signature “An” from Tōan.
