This Indenture, made this Sixteenth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety-four,

BETWEEN
William H. Lewis and his wife H. J. Lewis of Ecorse, Wayne County, Michigan, parties of the first part,
and
Mark Andis and Edward Thompson, parties of the second part.

Witnesseth, That the said parties of the first part, for and in consideration of the sum of sand sum of part in burning sawmill on a bond herein after mentioned,

have granted, bargained, sold, remised, released, enfeoffed, and confirmed, and by these presents do grant, bargain, sell, remise, release, enfeoff, and confirm unto the said parties of the second part, and to their heirs and assigns, Forever, all that certain piece or parcel of land situated in the Township of Ecorse, in the County of Wayne and State of Michigan, and described as follows, to wit:

The West sixty acres of the South 1/2 of SW quarter of Sec 27 in Township 15 South, Range 11 East (except four acres in the SW corner thereof). Also, from a point 35 rods east of Sec. 27, thence south by the same width of said section west 7.5 rods, 7.5 rods of land more or less. Also, said Sawmill land and land owned by Saginaw Iron Co., east of said Iron Co. and the State road. Also, lot 381 and the south 12 feet of lot 418. Also, the south 44 feet of lot 435 of the village of Ecorse, Mich., and Lot 186 and the east half of Lot 267 in said village.

Together, with the hereditaments and appurtenances thereto belonging or in anywise appertaining,
To Have and to Hold the above-bargained premises unto the said parties of the second part, and to their heirs and assigns, to the sole and only proper use, benefit, and behoof of the said parties of the second part, their heirs and assigns, Forever.

Provided Always, and these presents are upon this express condition, that if the said parties of the first part shall and do well and truly pay, or cause to be paid, to the said parties of the second part, the sum of one thousand dollars, all lawful money of the United States, with interest as said sum at an agreed rate of [text unclear] percent per annum, to be paid as follows: in annual installments, said payments to be made on the first day of [text unclear] in each year, then this obligation shall be void; otherwise, it shall remain in full force and effect.

And the said parties of the first part hereby covenant and agree to pay to the said parties of the second part, the money aforesaid.
But in case of non-payment of the said sum of money and the interest, or any part thereof, at the time, in the manner, and at the place above limited and specified for the payment thereof,

it shall and may be lawful for the said parties of the second part, their heirs, executors, administrators, or assigns, to grant, bargain, sell, release, and convey the said premises, with the appurtenances, at public auction or vendue, and on such sale to make and execute to the purchaser or purchasers, their heirs, and assigns, Forever, good, ample, and sufficient deed or deeds of conveyance in law, pursuant to the statute in such case made and provided, rendering the surplus moneys (if any there should be) to the said parties of the first part, their heirs, executors, or administrators, after deducting the costs, fees, and charges of such proceedings, vendue, and sale aforesaid.

And the said parties of the first part covenant and agree to pay to the said parties of the second part and their assigns, the costs and charges aforesaid, and also Dollars,
as an attorney or solicitor’s fee, should any proceedings be taken to foreclose this Indenture, at law or in equity, over and above all legally taxed costs.
