This beautiful $10 Gold Piece was first struck over 200 years ago, not long after America declared its independence. The young country's growth is seen in its early coinage. There is a variation in the number of stars as new states joined the Union. Robert Scot designed this historic coin, which is the second in the Eagle series. The Capped Bust is the original obverse design; the Heraldic Eagle replaced a smaller eagle design in 1797, and was enlarged in 1801. Coin is minted of brass then layered with pure 24k gold.
