This is an original German Prussian Infantry Pickelhaube, Model 1895 pattern, dated 1910. It features a black boiled-leather shell with brass fittings, including the Prussian eagle front plate with the “FR” (Fridericus Rex) cypher and the motto “Mit Gott für König und Vaterland.”

Inside the rear visor are clear unit markings:

4.K.

II 35

1910

T.B.8

(M and faint size/lot marks)

These markings identify the helmet as originally issued to the 4th Company, 2nd Battalion of Füsilier-Regiment Nr. 35, based in Brandenburg an der Havel. It was later reissued to Rheinisches Train-Bataillon Nr. 8 in Koblenz/Ehrenbreitstein during wartime mobilization. Dual markings like this are historically desirable and help document its service path.

All major components are present, including the brass spike, trim, wappen (front plate), and the original chinstrap. The leather liner is intact and complete, showing age-appropriate dryness and cracking but no repairs. The shell has developed the typical century-old craquelure seen on untouched Pickelhauben. No restoration, polishing, or conditioning has been performed.

This is a fully authentic, well-documented example of an Imperial German helmet issued just before World War I — an excellent display piece for collectors of German militaria.

This Pickelhaube has been in my great-uncle’s possession for nearly 75 years. He is now 97, and the helmet has remained safely stored in our family since shortly after World War II.
