The left hand skipping rope is antique, made by Salt Saltair and is in good overall condition, but some minor wear throughout. The right band skipping rope is a vintage item of an unknown maker. Again in good used condition.
This is a vintage wooden skipping rope in excellent condition that dates back to the depression era of the 1930's. (Read the fun fact below I found online about it).
The left skipping rope is hand made from rope threaded through the handles of mill thread bobbins. The bobbins have metal ends with the inscription Saltaire. Saltaire is a model Victorian village near Bradford, England, that included a thriving cotton mill that was operational until the 1980s. This toy represents the tradition of ‘making do’ – that is, reusing materials in times of financial hardship or geographical isolation, particularly in the creation of tools and household items. The production of toys like this was particularly common during the World Wars when materials were scarce.
