Complete three-volume set of H. L. Mencken’s classic study of American English, published by Alfred A. Knopf and including both Supplement I and Supplement II. All volumes are in very good condition: clean, sound bindings with solid hinges and only light shelfwear to boards and edges. Text pages are clean, unmarked, and bright, with no underlining or highlighting noted.

Original dust jackets present on all three volumes, overall good: moderately rubbed with some edgewear, small chips, and short closed tears to spine ends and corners, but no major losses to lettering or jacket design. Now protected in new removable mylar sleeves.

A solid, attractive set of Mencken’s monumental and still-indispensable work on the development and character of American English, increasingly hard to find as a complete three-volume set with both supplements and all dust jackets present.
