    About this item

    More BOOM in the Boombox

Leave it to JBL to somehow make the Boombox 4 lighter yet more powerful than its predecessor. JBL redesigned this speaker with larger woofers and an extra passive radiator, so it thumps extra hard. It sits in the sweet spot between their lineup of more compact portables and their jumbo PartyBox speakers.

The Boombox 4 uses AI in the digital signal processing — it analyzes incoming signals and makes adjustments on the fly to keep the sound clean, without distorting or getting too boomy. That trait has long been a hallmark of JBL speakers, which is one reason why I've purchased many over the years.

    Extended battery life

The Boombox 4's battery life extends to a whopping 34 hours, which ought to get you through the night and then some. I love how the battery is replaceable — that's not something we're using to seeing in portable speakers.

The speaker offers two Bass Boost modes: "deep" for extended bottom end and "punchy" to keep things a bit tighter. I also recommend downloading the free JBL Portable app. It allows you to adjust the EQ, which is a nice bonus for dialing in the sound for different types of music.
