Description:

A refined 2'8" x 7'9" hand-knotted Tibetan runner in premium wool introduces a distinguished interplay of color, craftsmanship, and transitional design. The deep aubergine field provides an elegant backdrop for botanical motifs in gold, mint, rose, green, and brown, creating a balanced, nature-inspired composition. Crafted in a cotton foundation with a low 0.40 pile, this runner offers durability and a soft hand feel. Its multi-tonal palette and refined detailing make it an elevated choice for hallways that benefit from subtle depth and character.

Story Behind the Art: For centuries, Tibetans have woven rugs that blend beauty and purpose, inspired by geometric patterns, auspicious symbols, mythical creatures, and nature. Following the 1959 Chinese invasion and Tibetan diaspora to Nepal and India, the craft experienced a vital revival. By the 1970s, Nepalese artisans became key to preserving and evolving this tradition. Unlike most Asian rugs that use Turkish or Persian knots, Tibetan rugs feature a distinctive Tibetan knot a continuous yarn looped around a rod across the loom’s warps, then cut to form dense, textured piles with remarkable depth. Traditional motifs reflect Buddhist philosophy, while dragons, phoenixes, and lotuses from Chinese art enrich their visual language. Modern Nepalese and Indo-Tibetan designs reinterpret these elements through contemporary, free-form expressions.
