Why You Need Amber Lighting In The Evening
During the day time, if you intend to be awake and alert, you want to get as much day light as possible...particularly in the morning. This signals to your body it is time to suppress the production of melatonin and wake up to be focused, energized, and alert.
However, in the evening, assuming you want to go to sleep in a few hours...you want to limit your exposure to bright, white light for all the reasons mentioned above. It suppresses the natural production of melatonin in our body. Instead, we want to signal to our body that it's time to wind down for the day and get ready for sleep. In the event that we need lighting in the evening hours, ideally we want to switch over to a warm, low color temperature (1600K) light which lacks blue/white light.
In short, to be awake and alert, we want bright white/blue light. To get ready to sleep, we want darkness or dimly light, amber colored lighting.
