MAY MILTON
by HENRI DE TOULOUSE-LAUTREC
This is a nice color bookplate print measuring approx. 7.5" x 9.75" that is tipped-in
to a large paper sheet that measures approx. 9" x 11.5"
There is printing on the reverse of the print, this is a high quality bookplate print, produced by Harry N. Abrams, NY, 1962.
In Very Good Used Condition, vibrant colors, no chips or tears, there may be light edgewear, some faint creasing, see photos.
Toulouse-Lautrec's bold poster designs secured lasting fame for an assortment of raffish café-concert performers in the Montmartre area of Paris, including May Milton, an English music hall refugee who was engaged by the Moulin Rouge for a single season. May Milton, one of his boldest compositions, illustrates Lautrec's innovative style based on a dynamic pattern of flat, simplified, brightly colored shapes and dramatic silhouettes. Lautrec, an astute observer of character and physical features, captured the life of a decadent era in his radically concise, vigorous representations. This poster was made to advertise her tour of the United States.
