Original 18th-century copperplate engraved map of Monmouthshire, Wales, drawn by John Rocque and published in England Displayed by Adlard & Browne, London, 1769.


Cartographer: John Rocque (1704–1762), French-born cartographer active in London.

Medium: Copperplate engraving on laid rag paper.


Hand Coloring: Outlined and wash colored in period watercolor — a scarcer example, as many were issued uncolored.


Hand written note on back that it was purchased in Wales in 1976 and says it is claimed that it was from 1770. 


Features: Compass rose with fleur-de-lis, scale bar in English miles, engraved hachures for relief.


Authenticity: Genuine 18th-century print — shows plate impression, rag paper texture, and brush-applied watercolor.


Size (plate area): approx. 7.5" × 6.25"


Frame measures 12.5 x 10.5 with a 2 inch mat.


Condition: Light toning and minor foxing consistent with age; colors remain attractive. Nicely presented in mat and frame
