This advertising figure, in the form of a golfer with a "bramble" design golf ball head, is something of a classic, designed to advertise Dunlop brand golfballs, probably in Britain in the 1920s or 30s. In mint condition these figures command high prices, but this chap is a little worse for wear - but definitely worthy of restoration. The 19.7cm diameter metal ashtray is missing one cigarette rest and has been painted yellow. There is evidence that it was painted green prior to the yellow paint being applied. The c.14cm tall figure has also been heavily retouched. The yellow cap was originally painted brown and some of this colour survives. The head was originally designed to swivel, but the bobble on the hat is missing and this was presumably formed the apex of a rod, now missing, around which the head could turn. It is now separate from the body but sits nicely on the shoulders for display. This chap deserves to be restored.
