These notes were crafted in the United States to be a voluntary,local currency, that can be exchanged in commercial transactions withbusinesses that accept this spendable form of gold alongside fiat US dollars.  They are also collectable and this was the first year of the Utah Goldback.  

The creation of theGoldback relies on 5th generation vacuum deposition technology. The designs areprinted on a sheet of polymer that is then bombarded with the correct amount ofatomized gold particles in a vacuum chamber. This gold is then sealed inside bya second protective barrier of polymer, thus creating a beautiful negativeimage.
