Double Irish Chain Quilt is constructed from a wide variety of fabrics. The pieced squares used in the quilt are just under 1 inch in diameter. The quilt is hand quilted in an overall grid pattern across the open areas of the quilt and in closely spaced diagonal lines through the pieced block. The back is solid off-white muslin. The inner batting is lightweight cotton. The quilt measures 77 inches by 91 inches and will fit nicely on a full bed. It is shown on a queen bed with about an 8” drop off the sides. The quilt is in excellent condition, with a sturdy feel to it. There are no areas of wear to the quilt, including the gingham binding. In older quilts, the binding is often the first part to show wear. This binding is in pristine condition.

This quilt was made from feed sacks and scraps of fabrics from the 30s and 40s. You can see the variety of prints used in the blocks and also the hand quilting in grids, which cross the entire surface of the quilt. There are about 3 blocks of Muslim that have discolored over time. They are not stains. Please inspect the photos I have taken of them and circled in red. These and no way affect the appearance of the quilt and are not noticeable unless inspected closely.

This quilt has not been laundered, I didn’t want to jeopardize the integrity of it and will leave it to the buyer. There isn’t any mustiness, or bad smells. It has been carefully preserved over the years and is in magnificent condition.

This quilt will come to you from a smoke free pet free home.
