WKC SOLINGEN ARGENTINE CAVALRY SABER MODEL 1898 GEN. M.H. POMAR GIFT

For sale is a Regulation cavalry saber, Model 1898, manufactured by Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Co., Solingen (Germany), a renowned supplier of edged weapons to the Argentine Army from the late 19th to the mid-20th century.

The hilt bears the National Coat of Arms of Argentina in relief and a plaque with the following inscription:

“EL CTE XMA BR I TTE GRL ‘NICOLÁS LEVALLE’

GRL BR MANUEL H. POMAR

A SU AMIGO

SR EDUARDO ORLANSKY.”

The dedication refers to Brigadier General Manuel H. Pomar, then Commander of the 1st Cavalry Brigade “Nicolás Levalle”, who presented this saber to his friend Eduardo Orlansky.

This example is a commemorative and personal gift piece, typical of the 1940s–1950s period, derived from the regulation model used by the Argentine Army.

The saber is in good condition, as pictured the blade is great, but the top shows rusty signs as well of the handle shield. Also shows normal signs of use such marks and scratches
