The soft-paste majolica figurine depicts a Brownie as Sailor Defender standing upon a self-base which simulates stony ground; he wears a blue sailor uniform and cap which is labeled "Defender", and his cap has an open top designed for use as candle holder. Incised 8878 from the series. Excellent condition. Circa 1895, inspired by the Palmer Cox Brownie illustrations.
