Offered here is a scarce 1st Pattern British Airborne Paratrooper’s Leg Bag, officially known as the Container, Weapons and Personal Equipment, Parachutists, and more commonly referred to by collectors as the “Sims Container” after its designer, Major Sim.
Manufactured by Mills Equipment Company (M.E.Co.) and clearly dated 1953, this is an increasingly scarce example of early post-war British Airborne equipment. The container was specifically designed to carry a wide range of loads — including the 3-inch mortar barrel, Vickers MG barrel, Bren LMG, folding stretcher, and other heavy or awkward equipment required by airborne troops on landing.
Background:
Introduced in the early 1950s, the Sims Container was intended to replace the wartime leg bags used during World War II. However, despite its innovative design, it proved unpopular in service. Troops found it very heavy even when empty (approximately 8 kilograms) and awkward to unpack quickly under combat conditions. As a result, it was only issued for a short period before being withdrawn, making surviving examples exceptionally hard to find today.
Details:
Maker: Mills Equipment Company Ltd. (M.E.Co.)
Date: 1953 (clearly marked)
Material: Heavy canvas with webbing straps and metal fittings
Approximate weight: 7.5 kg (empty)
Condition: in good condition with some evidence of euse and service use. Some surface rust to the metal fittings from being in storage.
A superb and seldom-seen piece of British airborne history, ideal for serious militaria collectors, museum display, or as part of a Cold War-era British Airborne equipment collection.

Shipping
Items are usually despatched within 24 hours of payment. We do aim to get to the post on a daily basis but this is not guaranteed especially on the weekend.
Courier items may take longer as we need to book collection 24hours in advance. Couriers do not collect over the weekend therefore items finishing on a Thursday may not be collected until the following Monday.
If a Courier service is offered please note they currently do NOT deliver to all addresses or may incur an extra charge for remote areas. These include Isle of Man, Channel Islands, Northern Ireland, Scottish Highlands, etc. In this instance you must opt for the alternative courier option or contact us for a price on shipping.
Some of our heavier / bulky items can be shipped overseas but price depends on location. Please contact us for a shipping quote if one is not specified.
A note to our New Zealand buyers - for some reason eBay do not display an option for postage to NZ so please use the same displayed cost as for Australia.
We are happy to combine postage on multiple items but please wait to be invoiced or request total on completion of bidding. It makes for more work if you pay for multiple items separately and we do not get refunded for our percentage of eBay's fees.
GLOBAL SHIPPING PROGRAMME - how this works?? We send items to a central warehouse here in the UK & from there the Global Shipping company process the delivery to the overseas address. This can be a lengthy process and Point 303 do not accept responsibility for the lead time as this is beyond our control. Items are fully insured.
NOTE: EBAY now charge us 'sellers' fees on our postage so where postage is chargeable on our listings the cost quoted covers a small amount to help cover this and our packaging costs, it does not reflect the cost of the postage stamp only! If you find this unacceptable then please refrain from bidding or leaving poor feedback ratings. We do sometimes make mistakes on postage charges due to estimating packing weight. If you feel you have been unduly charged for post then please do get in touch and we will investigate it further.
