The Cirrus SR22 is a private, single engine, 4-5 passenger composite aircraft, with a whole plane emergency recovery parachute, that has been manufactured since 2003 by Cirrus Aircraft. The SR22 was an upgrade from the original SR20, which was manufactured since 2001. The SR22 had a larger wing, higher fuel capacity, and a more powerful 310 hp engine. It was the first light aircraft with a full glass cockpit. The SR22 Series has been the world's bestselling general aviation aircraft since 2003. There have been 8,246 models manufactured through 2024.   

Cirrus Aircraft is an aircraft design, manufacturing, maintenance and management company, as well as a provider of aircraft flight training services, that was founded in 1984. The company was originally founded to produce the VK-30 homebuilt aircraft. The VK-30 was a single engine, pusher propeller kit model manufactured and first introduced in 1987. The company is located headquartered in Duluth, Minnesota.
