This is a handmade Japanese papercut art (Kirie) featuring the rare and sacred kanji “Soshiji (そしじ)”, a character that no longer exists in modern Japanese.

After World War II, under GHQ’s postwar policy, this character was abolished and has since disappeared from common use.

The word “Soshiji” is a compound of the characters 宗 (religion/spirit), 主 (master/principle), and 神 (god/divinity), and it represents:

Love

Gratitude

Harmony

It is said to symbolize the purpose of human existence and high spiritual energy. Traditionally, it was believed that displaying this symbol brings good fortune, keeping it close attracts positive energy, and placing it under a pillow encourages peaceful sleep.

Each piece is carefully hand-cut from black paper, making it not only an artwork but also a meaningful cultural and spiritual item.
