Original 1979 US Army Special Forces Senior Qualification Beret Badge Prototype

Very interesting and unique item. This stamped and gilt metal badge was a proposed prototype to be the Special Forces Groups qualification DI. A group of 10th Special Forces Group NCOs designed and proposed this badge, in three grades, in 1979. It was submitted to the Department of the Army but was rejected. It submitted again in 1980, and rejected again. They were finally submitted as the 10th SFG(A) formal entry to General Lutz's request for suggestions of a permanent award to recognize Special Forces Qualification, again without success. The badge measures 1-3/4" in width with two post for clutch fasteners.
