This presentation copy (#52 of 300) was awarded to William Gardner, an 1847 Utah pioneer honored during the Diamond Jubilee Celebration of Pioneer Day on July 24, 1923 in Salt Lake City. Gardner (1846–1932) was born on the trail west and arrived in Utah as an infant with the 1847 companies, later becoming a respected southern Utah colonizer and community leader. His life and papers (1884–1916) are preserved in the Church History Library of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and he was publicly recognized in the Washington County News (1926) as one of the remaining pioneers of Utah. The book’s presentation leaf is co-signed by Flora B. Horne, President of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, adding further historical significance.

According to my research using Church and historical records, this copy was almost certainly presented to William Gardner (1846–1932), though absolute verification cannot be guaranteed.
