These incredibly rare 1959 souvenir tickets are a true piece of Washington D.C. history! Issued for the National Historical Museum, they feature the museum’s address at 500 26th Street NW—a location that no longer exists, making these tickets an exceptionally scarce find.
During World War II, many buildings in D.C. were relocated to temporary structures, and the National Historical Museum was no exception. It was housed in the former Heurich Brewing Company stables, at the corner of 26th & E Street NW. Alongside the museum, the building also held the National Historical Wax Museum, adding to its unique past.
By 1964, the museum was permanently closed, and its artifacts were transferred to the Smithsonian Institution. The historic building was later demolished to make way for what would become The Kennedy Center—forever erasing this piece of Washington’s past.
