This Explorer model from Gordon Smith Guitars is very rare, and even more so in left handed orientation!
When I bought it around 10 years ago it didn’t have the pick guard, and it had a wrap around style tailpiece, so I contacted GS Guitars and they agreed to do the work for me. They made and fitted the classic style white pick guard and then removed the tailpiece and replaced it with a Gibson style tune o matic bridge to complete the “classic” 58 Explorer look.
The body is slightly slimmer than its Gibson equivalent (I’ve had both) and I always preferred this one for its comfort and weight, which is 3.5Kg btw. I had the pickups changed to a more standard chrome finish humbucker (sorry, can’t remember the brand) and these produce an amazing rich, vibrant tone (original p/up’s included if you choose to refit them). The control knobs and toggle were replaced with vintage Gibson original spare parts and the front strap button has been moved from behind the neck/body joint to the side of the body.
The body and neck are made from exotic timbers and look/ feel great. lovely fat, low profile frets and a wonderfully fast neck make this a great Explorer option for us lefties. Just a couple of light age marks which hopefully show up in the pics, but they’re very superficial.
Comes with a hard flight case and the original GS black, potted coil-tap pickups.
