We are pleased to present an exquisite treasure from the golden age of design — a magnificent pair of French Art Deco sterling silver grape scissors, dating from circa 1920–1930.

Crafted by the esteemed Maison Lapparra of Paris, these scissors are a superb example of Art Deco elegance infused with Egyptian Revival splendor, a style that flourished following the 1922 discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb, which ignited a wave of fascination with ancient Egypt across Europe.

The finely cast sterling silver handles feature figural repoussé detailing, showcasing majestic Egyptian vultures and graceful lotus flowers adorning the finger rings — potent symbols of protection and rebirth in ancient Egyptian culture. The blades, forged from high-quality carbon steel, remain sharp and functional, a testament to the enduring craftsmanship of the period.

The inside of the shanks bears the prestigious French Minerva hallmark (950 silver purity), along with the maker’s mark HL with a rat in a lozenge, denoting the renowned silversmith Henri Lapparra, in use post-1923.

Founded in 1893, the House of Lapparra catered to an elite clientele, producing luxurious flatware and silver objects celebrated for their refinement and artistic integrity.

These grape scissors are not only a functional objet d’art, but also a glorious representation of the Art Deco movement’s fascination with ancient civilizations, seamlessly blending beauty, symbolism, and history.

Condition: Superb antique condition. The silverwork is beautifully preserved, with only minor, age-appropriate patina to the blades — no damage or repairs.
