Complete Extended Title
Presco Underground Detectable Tape: 2 in. x 1000 ft. (Orange/Black CAUTION BURIED FIBER OPTIC LINE BELOW)
Product Highlights
- LOCATABLE FROM THE SURFACE: Full-width solid aluminum foil core lets crews find buried utilities with any standard non-ferrous pipe and cable locator
- 5-MIL LAMINATED CONSTRUCTION: PET top film, aluminum foil core, and polyethylene backing deliver tear and puncture resistance for years of underground service
- PERMANENT REVERSE-PRINTED LEGEND: Bold black message is sealed beneath the clear top film so it will not degrade or fade when exposed to soil moisture, alkalis, or acids
- APWA COLOR CODED: Background color matches the American Public Works Association utility code so the line type is identifiable the moment the tape is uncovered
- AVAILABLE IN 2 IN., 3 IN., AND 6 IN. WIDTHS ON 1000 FT. ROLLS: Choose from buried electric, high voltage cable, fiber optic, oil, water, gas, sewer, storm drain, force main, or reclaimed water legends; service temperature -60 to 250 degrees F
Presco Underground Detectable Warning Tape is a non-adhesive 5-mil thick laminated barrier tape designed to be buried 6 to 12 inches above pipes, conduits, and cables to alert excavators to underground utilities. A full-width solid aluminum foil core lets crews locate the tape from the surface using any standard non-ferrous pipe and cable locator, reducing the risk of costly utility strikes during digging.
The tape uses a laminated PET / foil / polyethylene construction with the bold black legend reverse printed on the underside of the clear top film, sealing the ink against soil moisture, alkalis, and acids so the message stays readable for years underground. APWA color-coded backgrounds make the utility type easy to identify the moment the tape is uncovered.
Service temperature: -60 to 250 degrees F. Available in 2 in., 3 in., and 6 in. widths on 1000 ft. rolls and a full range of APWA color and legend combinations including buried electric, high voltage cable, fiber optic, oil, water, gas, sewer, storm drain, force main, and reclaimed water lines.
Application Instructions
- After the utility line, pipe, or conduit has been laid in the trench, backfill to within 6 to 12 inches of finished grade (or follow the utility owner's specified burial depth).
- Unroll the tape along the trench directly above the buried utility, message side facing up, keeping the tape flat and continuous.
- Overlap any splices by at least 6 inches and twist the tape ends to keep the aluminum foil cores in contact for continuous locator signal.
- Complete the backfill, then compact the soil per the project's specifications.
- To locate the tape later, sweep the surface with a standard non-ferrous (metal) pipe and cable locator tuned to a passive metallic mode.
