Pre-owned, but in good condition overall. This brooch was made by a jewelry manufacturer by the name of Marsala (a.k.a.: Marsala Company). You can see the Marsala brand mark (a capital M, followed by a backwards capital C - which looks like an upside down CW) on the back of the brooch. Marsala was based in the Northeastern US and was in business 1977-2009. Marsala was well-known as a maker of high quality sterling silver jewelry.

My best guess, based on the style of this piece and they way it was made, is that this brooch was made in the 1970s or 1980s.
