Overview
This listing is for a lot of seven original antique magic lantern slides illustrating hydro-electric turbines and associated generating equipment manufactured by the English Electric Company Ltd.
These are genuine early twentieth-century photographic glass slides, each measuring approximately 2¾ × 2¾ inches, intended for projection with a magic lantern. Most appear to depict large hydro-electric generating plant and turbines, with one slide believed to show the Bhira hydro-electric project in India and another identified as Bonnington Power Station in the Clyde Valley, Scotland.
Several slides retain the original catalogue numbers together with the imprint of Edward H. North, Clapham, London, a well-known supplier of educational lantern slides.
Condition
The slides are generally in good condition for their considerable age.
As is common with glass lantern slides, there may be small chips, edge wear or minor damage to some of the glass sandwiches. Please examine all photographs carefully as they form part of the description and condition report.
Included
- Seven original photographic magic lantern slides
- English Electric Company hydro-electric turbine subjects
- Original glass-mounted photographic transparencies
Applications & Suitability
This is an unusual industrial and engineering archive relating to the development of hydro-electric power generation during the early twentieth century. Such slides appeal to collectors of magic lantern material, industrial photography, engineering history, electricity generation, English Electric Company memorabilia and museum or educational collections.
The subjects include large generating equipment, turbine runners and power station installations, making the group suitable for researchers interested in the history of electrical engineering, civil engineering and hydro-electric development. They would also make an attractive display alongside antique projection equipment or as part of a collection of historic industrial photography.
