ORIGINAL LUCINDA DOUGLAS MENZIES (b 1956) 'BEN OKRI AND DEREK WOLCOTT TAKEN AT 128 KENSINGTON CHURCH STREET 2004' GELATIN SILVER PHOTOGRAPH

This is a wonderful original. I was recently going through my print and photograph cabinet and pulled this photograph out.  I bought it a couple years ago and always thought I would keep it in my personal collection.  When I recently picked up the 1970s San Francisco Poetry archive I remembered this photograph of important poets and went and pulled it out.  This is an incredible portrait by important Contemporary portrait photographer Lucinda Douglas Menzies.  For those not familiar with the photographer I have included her biography below.  This is a great portrait of Ben Okri (b 1959), the Nigerian British poet and Derek Walcott (1930-2017), the St Lucian poet.  Image measures 10 x 10 1/2 inches on sheet measuring 15 x 13 1/2 inches.  Wonderful rich gelatin silver photograph (far better than my pictures show).  The artist's stamp as well as signature date and title in pencil verso.  Archival taped at the top verso into matte with a backing.  Ready for framing.  Really an incredible original photograph.  Do your research on this photographer and the subjects.  A must have for any poetry or photography collector.  FREE SHIPPING ANYWHERE IN THE UNITED STATES.

For those not familiar with the artist, her biography from a museum that exhibits her work reads: "Douglas-Menzies was born in London and began her photography career as an assistant to Jeremy Whitaker, an architectural photographer, and Sidney Harris, a press and PR photographer. She then worked for Sotheby’s auction house as an in-house photographer before embarking on a freelance career in 1986. She has since worked in the world of fine art photography and has developed her own work through portraiture. Douglas-Menzies’s favoured approach is to shoot her sitters on location, incorporating an aspect of their personal domain into the background. This contextual information encourages interplay between the subject and their environment, offering the viewer greater insight into the sitter."
