According to the typology, the weathering of the material and the context of find, this piece may date back to the Aurignacians, first Sapiens culture in south-west of France.

The Upper Paleolithic tools are rare, because of the short length of each culture. For comparison, the Aurignacien culture last 14 000 years; the previous Mousterian culture (Neanderthal) last 250-300 000 years.
