Illustrated by Helen Jackson with chromolithographic and sepia illustrations throughout (many are full page).

With toys , coloring book and watercolor paints , dolls , cats , dogs , etc.

The poem "The Water Babies" includes an illustration of a " bathing machine " - a small, two-door box on four wheels which enabled people to put on their bathing suits and walk across the beach without having the opposite sex see them in clothing considered improper.

In Victorian England, bathing machines were a necessary component of upholding seaside etiquette ; men and women were usually separated, especially in Britain, so that people of the opposite sex could not see them in their bathing suits.

They were also used at beaches in the United States , continental Europe , end elsewhere.

Light binding wear.

The covers remain well attached, and the spine cloth is still in good condition.

The hinges are tight.

No writing.

No markings.

A couple of the lithograph have a small area of damage: 

" Queen Bess " has a small spot of damage near the hem of her dress.

" Cat's Cradle " and " In the Orchard " each have several spots of damage (there two are facing pages which were adhered together, at some point).

The pages are otherwise in good condition.

Carefully packed for shipment to the buyer.
