Here we have a beautiful vintage 1970s studio enamel pin dish by Franco Bastinelli di Laurana of Italy. Note that it's a really small dish, it fits in the palm of the hand, please check measurements below. It features an art nouveau-inspired floral lovebirds design in thick high-fired enamel hand screened over a copper metal base. The colours are shades of mauve and pink, with gold details, on greyish-white. There is a craquelure effect to the white, I believe this is part of the original design. It's similar in style to Michaela Frey, who was also working at this time. The back reads "smalti d'arte a gran fuoco su metallo - serigrafato a mano", this means "high-fired art enamels on metal - hand-screened".
Franco Bastinelli di Laurana is a famous mid-century Italian designer and artist who first became known for award-winning small decor pieces and exquisite enamel jewellery, but later went on to make fine art enamel sculptures. His pieces are quite scarce to find in the UK nowadays. In particular these 1970s art nouveau-style pieces seem rarer than his 1960s modernist designs. Please examine the photos for details. Measurements and condition notes are below.
