Ectoine (cas# 96702-03-3) is a cyclic amino acid produced by organisms exposed to extreme drought, temperatures and heat. It is a bacteria-derived extremolyte that provides defence against environmental stressors. It is a well-researched active used widely in cosmetics because of its anti-oxidant, and humectant with strong water-binding properties. Ectoine improves skin hydration, reduces dryness and diminishes visible signs of aging. It is used in cleansing agents to reduce irritation and enhance the safety of cleansing agents.
