Azelaic acid is a naturally occurring dicarboxylic acid. It is a mild skin-brightening agent that works by inhibiting tyrosinase, the enzyme that supports the production of melanin and is considered an alternative to retinoids and other harsh brightening actives like hydroquinone. Azelaic acid is a mild exfoliant suitable for all skin types. It has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and comedolytic properties (inhibits the formation of blemishes caused when oil and skin cells are trapped in pores) and is effective in eliminating comedonal and acnes resulting from inflammation. It reduces fine lines and wrinkles and gives skin a healthy glow and soothes and evens skin tone and promotes hair growth.
