Les Fleurs Animes is the masterpiece and most popular illustrated book by 19th century illustrator Granville. It has also been translated and published under the title "Flower Fantasies". Granville, who excelled in anthropomorphizing animals, contains fantastic illustrations in which women are transformed into elegant flowers. The background to the publication of this book was to imbue the beautiful flowers with the image of his wife Henriette, who died in 1842. It is said that the book was painted with the earnest wish to be reunited with his late wife after his own death. Hand-colored copperplate. 2 title page plates, 50 illustration plates.
