On Shimano XTR pedals, the load path runs from the axle to the pedal body through the bushing interface inside the lock nut. This is a critical structural point with no secondary support.
Compared to aluminium, titanium provides a more stable and wear-resistant interface, resulting in improved precision and a firmer connection between axle and pedal body over time.
These titanium lock nuts are supplied without the internal sleeve. Shimano uses a PTFE insert inside the original nut, which must be reused.
Compatibility verified across XTR generations M980 to M9220. Minor internal design evolutions exist (e.g. bearing interface diameter changes from approx. 12.28 mm to 12.87 mm from M9100), but lock nut geometry and function remain fully compatible.
