The MEN J-3 CUB kit was a 72" span semi-scale RC that featured a reverse-camber airfoil for a real floating glide. A curved airfoil bottom was an innovation by Ken Willard on his famous SHOWMASTER and 1/2A RC model. Ken said it could be flown in your front yard because the airfoil resulted in nice slow flying speeds. I list the SHOWMASTER plans separately. Keep it in mind for a future build!
I have reduced the original 72" MEN PLAN to give you a nice 54" span J-3 RC sport scale model that will be a delight to fly in small places. This PLAN does not have all of the fuselage bulkhead parts patterns shown so this is a scratch-builder's project.
The second PLAN is from a 54" span Sterling RC J-3 CUB kit that came with an enlarged stabilizer for rudder-only RC flying.
As a BONUS I include copies of very nice scale 3-view drawings featuring the J-3 CUB, and a great article about the actual plane.
So here you have two fine 54" span J-3 CUB RC model plans that a seasoned scratch builder can combine the best features of both models.
My last picture is of Pop in front of a J-3 Cub at an old Reading, PA Airshow in the 1970s. Pop learned to fly in the Army in 1958 in a J-3.
I AM NOT SELLING A KIT, only new copies of both kit PLANS.
“Excellent quality on a very hard to find plan set! I have a perfect M.E.N. Piper Cub kit that was missing the plans. Couldn't find them anywhere, but now I'm golden! Thanks!” ~ John K. San Jacinto, CA
