Nha Trang, located in Khanh Hoa Province in Vietnam, was a significant location during the Vietnam War. In 1964 and 1965, Nha Trang played a role in several aspects of the conflict.

During this period, Nha Trang served as a base for the U.S. military and South Vietnamese forces. The U.S. Army's 5th Special Forces Group had a presence in Nha Trang, utilizing the area as a staging point for Special Forces operations and training. The 5th Special Forces Group conducted a variety of missions, including training and advising South Vietnamese troops, gathering intelligence, and supporting local defense efforts.

Additionally, Nha Trang was home to Cam Ranh Bay, a deep-water bay and important logistical hub for the U.S. military. Cam Ranh Bay served as a major port facility and airbase, providing vital support for U.S. military operations throughout Vietnam. The presence of U.S. forces in Nha Trang and Cam Ranh Bay was part of the broader U.S. military involvement in Vietnam during the early years of the war. During this time, American military presence was steadily increasing as the conflict escalated.
