Vintage Hirsch Camel Saddle Leather 18mm Open-ended or Fixed Lug Watch Strap (B1259)

For those of you who may not know us, we at STRICKLAND VINTAGE WATCHES travel extensively, purchasing watches and horological material for our most discerning clients. Historic straps are wonderful things; windows into our stylistic past, enlightening and reassuring us. Often these older pieces are completely serviceable, providing both utility and artistic inspiration. However, some pieces simply succumb to the ravages of age and heavy use. Wire lug “wristlet” watches are back in a big way; in fact, they’ve remained a favorite among classic timepiece collectors since wristlet watches were created. The venerable Hirsch family of Austria have been manufacturing high-end wristwatch straps since 1945 and remain one of the most respected names in the craft.

We’re fortunate to offer a selection of original, new-old stock “Hirsch” open-ended watch straps from the '90s or so specifically to serve a horological community still in love with wire-lug pieces.    

This offering is a Vintage Hirsch Camel Saddle Leather 18mm Open-ended Watch Strap. It’s a regular length tapering to a 16mm buckle size, measuring just shy of 3" inches to end of buckle side and approx.  4 ½ inches on tongue side.  

Each end of the strap has glue that one can activate with acetone (nail-polish remover).  Occasionally we still install such straps at the client’s request; when we do we augment the original glue with our own contact cement. However, the original glue on these pieces holds for many who still use it by activating both sides, then clamping them together.
