| Notes: Minor shelf wear, binding tight, pages clean and unmarked. A guide to recent architecture Since publication of the first edition of this book, growing public interest in the quality of architecture and design across the us has even reached New York City. Driven by market forces and new technologies rather than deep-seated convictions (size and comfort still score bigger points here than design excellence), several exciting and innovative buildings have taken shape in the last two years in Manhattan, while the outer boroughs have continued to be more adventurous. Both American and European architects have had the opportunity to build, and this guide includes new work by James Stewart Polshek, Diller + Scofidio, Michael Gabellini, and Architecture Research Office among the former, while Christian de Portzamparc, Raimund Abraham, Aldo Rossi, Rem Koolhaas and Future Systems are among the latter. Susanna Sirefman trained as an architect at the Architectural Association in London before returning to her native New York. She has written extensively on contemporary architecture and has taught in London, Chicago and New York. |
