From the dust jacket - If the primary goal of a politician is to get elected, then the three subjects of Rexford G. Tugwell's penetrating study were more successful than most others in achieving this goal. Here an eminent political scientist has described the careers of three great political virtuosos: Franklin D. Roosevelt ? who achieved the presidency of the United States; Luis Mufioz Marin ? the dynamic governor of Puerto Rico; and the late Fiorello La Guardia ? New York City's colorful and beloved mayor. The "ability to sound and exploit the reservoirs of unconscious political approval latent in the electorate was the supremely useful common ability shared by all three. In this revealing book Rexford G. Tugwell has given a brilliant new insight into the political artistry of three famous Americans whose spectacular careers will entertain and instruct all those who are fascinated by THE ART OF POLITICS.
Rexford G. Tugwell has had a long and distinguished career in both the academic world and in politics. He was a professor of economics at Columbia University when Roosevelt asked him to join the Brains Trust. In the mid-thirties he became chairman of the New York City Planning Commission, following which he was for several years governor of Puerto Rico. Author of the fine THE DEMOCRATIC ROOSEVELT, he has recently retired from teaching political science at the University of Chicago. In the end he had 45 Books to his credit.

Protected by Archival Mylar jacket protector. No adhesive used this time (you can linda see where it was used before but being a coated cloth binding, can be removed most likely with minimal effort and easily removeable but why would you? This brodary is new, looks nice and unlike regular mylar, Archival protects against UV rays and fading/spine fading. Lmk if you want it off, stuff is expensive ;)
In pencil is the price I paid 20 years ago (I left it, but purposely written lightly and erases 100% off no evidence of the desecration - I left it because I like the story of a beautiful book. They've got more than the story between the boards to 'em.
First Edition clearly stated on info page as shown in image.
