This, could be, rare coin/token from the Khmer Empire/Angkor period may be an extremely valuable addition to any coin collection. With a composition of lead and tin, these ancient Cambodian coins circulated during the years 802-1431 AD. This coin features very fine detail and depicts an image of a sword bearing figure left pursuing what appears to be a bird of some sort on one side and a reclining mermaid wearing a typical Angkor headdress on the other side.

By a responding Ebay looker, I’ve been told that by style it’s related to the “flower” series of tokens often attributed to Angor or Ayythia.  This token series is itself mysterious. Some pieces seen are clearly “old” and worn and served as charms or gambling tokens perhaps-but others look to be more modern, possibly made as imitations of the older ones, or legitimately made for the same purpose. This one doesn’t appear to have been made yesterday!!

I do not find this unique, 2 and 5/16” diameter, 71.16 gram coin/token in any catalogues. If it does happen to be a coin of that period it would be a huge 8 units!

Since I have no knowledge of this coins/tokens true rarity and value I can only hope that someone with more resources contacts me with such information and an OFFER. I’m not looking for $500 but only for the input of a knowledgeable collector of Khmer Empire coinage!!
