Sir Denys Roberts joined the colonial service in 1953 as Crown Counsel in Malawi. He became Attorney General of Gibraltar in 1960. In 1962 he was appointed Solicitor-General of Hong Kong, Attorney-General in 1966 and Colonial Secretary in 1973. He became Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Hong Kong in 1979. He was President of the Marylebone Cricket Club (M.C.C) from 1989 to 1990.
