This used Coal Mining Scrip from the French Herault Mines of Graissessac bares a very interesting “Embossed Cancellation”. With a denomination of 10 centimes and a low number of N° 3918, this pick 34.45 exhibits that it was very lightly circulated for a short time.
The Grasissessac mine had a shaft that was sunk between 1864 and 1867 that was shut down in1877 after a catastrophic firedamp explosion that killed 47 miners (COAL MINING IS VERY DANGEROUS WORK!)
This at least 147 year old piece is circulated and ungraded, but looks like it was cancelled at the company store an hour ago. Made in France, this Coal Mining Scrip represents a time and place in history that is important and fascinating and is perfect for collectors of all levels and interests.
Whether you are adding to an existing collection or starting a new one, this Coal Mining Scrip is a must-have.
