Limoges Porcelain - Tressemann & Vogt
John Vogt (1815-1906) was actively involved in exporting porcelain to the United States in the 1840s. In the 1850s, he established a company office in Limoges. He established his own Limoges decorating studio in the 1860s.
His oldest son Charles assumed management of the New York office. When Frederic Dose, John Vogt’s nephew joined the New York office, it was renamed Vogt & Dose. They also established a decorating studio in New York. The New York office closed in 1931.
In the early 1870s, Gustave Vogt (1849-1937), John’s second son, joined the company and became a partner in the 1880s. An influx of capital from Emilien Tressmann allowed Vogt to purchase two small porcelain factories in Montjovis, Limoges. The company produced high-quality whiteware for export to the United States.
The Tressemann & Vogt partnership continued until Tressmann retired in 1907. The firm was renamed Porclaine Gustave Vogt. M. Raynaud purchased the firm in 1919.
