Premium Sarkanda Reed for Handmade Fishing Floats
Traditional natural reed for making wagglers, insert wagglers, pellet wagglers, bodied floats & loaded floats
Make your own traditional fishing floats using genuine Sarkanda reed — the classic material trusted by float makers for generations. Naturally buoyant, straight, lightweight, and biodegradable, Sarkanda is perfect for creating elegant, highly sensitive handmade wagglers and custom float designs.
There’s nothing quite like catching fish on a float you made yourself.
Each stem is pre-cut to 12" (30cm) and carefully selected from freshly harvested Indian reed imported directly into the UK. Depending on the style and size of float being made, each pack can produce approximately 20–40 floats, making this an incredibly versatile and cost-effective material for hobbyists and professional float makers alike.
Available Stem Sizes
Most sizes are supplied in packs of 21 stems (including one spare to ensure you receive at least 20 usable stems). Larger diameters are supplied in reduced quantities due to postal weight limits.
The slimmer 2–4 mm stems are ideal for insert tips and pellet waggler inserts, while the larger diameters are perfect for straight and bodied wagglers.
Fresh 2025 Harvest Stock
Sarkanda reed is becoming increasingly difficult to source in the UK. This is freshly harvested stock imported directly from India and available for immediate dispatch from the UK. Limited quantities available — especially in the larger 6–9 mm sizes.
Pre-Sanded Option Available
Natural Sarkanda has a waxy outer coating which must be keyed before painting or varnishing. To save hours of tedious sanding, I offer a professionally pre-sanded option using a custom-built drum sander and jeweller’s grade pumice powder. This removes the wax coating cleanly and evenly, allowing paint, varnish, and lacquer to adhere properly straight away.
Simply wipe the stems clean and start creating.
