3d Printed Tubular Latch Jig Guide - for Howdens Latches

This listing is specifically for Howdens latches. Please see our other listing for S&L, Union, Zoo, ERA, Eclipse, etc latch jigs.

This listing is for a kit that contains both the jig for the main face plate, as well as the jig for the strike plate / keeper.

Please scroll down for the full sizes of both the face plate and the keeper - this will allow you to select the correct model from the drop down above.

*** Update: We now offer these jigs with double fences. This allows for two fences to be fitted (to the main jig) and positioned so the jig can be more readily 'clipped' over the door and clamped in place. It also allows for the pilot holes for the door handles to be drilled from both sides at the same time. ***

Designed for a variety of Howdens latches (see details below) and a variety of backsets. The 'fence' of the jig is removable. The standard fence allows for 45 and 57mm backsets; however, fences are available for bolt-through door handles with 44, 45 57mm and other backsets. If you require a different latch or backset please contact us and we will do our best to help.

Designed to be clamped (or screwed) to a door and results in a perfect latch recess. The fences on both jigs are adjustable allowing for perfect positioning on any door thickness between 35 and 45mm.

The jig kit allows for the latch faceplate (and keeper) recesses to be cut, as well as pilot holes for:
  • Faceplate mounting screws
  • Latch barrel centre
  • Door handle centre (and bolt-through door handle holes)
Pilot holes are 3mm and can be drilled or marked with a Pica pencil.

These jigs come as a kit which includes the standard latch jig along with a 'slimline' strike plate / keeper jig designed to be used on door linings/frames when the door stop and architrave are in place. This jig features a short fence and smaller deck (with a removable extension) so as to not interfere with the door stop. The deck thickness is 15mm. When used with door stop thicker than this, the jig will need some shims or the door stop will need to be removed. The fence on this jig is adjustable to allow for correct positioning of the keeper.

Lightweight and easy to use. Printed in durable PETG. All hardware included is A2 stainless steel.

Designed to be used with a 12-13mm template router cutter (such as the Trend 1/4" Template Profile Router Cutter 12.7 x 9.5mm shown in the photos). The cutter is not supplied with the template.

Items marked *** Special Request *** are the same price (we are simply unable to add more designs to this listing). If you need one of these, simply order an available design and add a note to your order with the design you really need - or contact us first.

Process
  1. Install your cutter in your router and set the depth to match the thickness of your latch faceplate
  2. Adjust the fence so that the jig is central on the door edge (use the marks to line up the jig with the door edge centre line)
  3. Mark the centre line of your latch on the edge of the door
  4. Line up the centre line marks mark on the jig with the door marked centre line and clamp the jig in place
  5. Router the faceplate recess and use a chisel to finish the corners
  6. Before unclamping the jig, swing the flap across the face and pilot drill (use a 3mm drill or Pica pencil) the three holes in the face
  7. Pilot drill the door handle centre hole (carefully choose the correct backset hole)
  8. Un-clamp the jig and spin it around; re-clamp with the stop on the other side of the door; drill the final door handle centre hole on other side of door
General Notes

The colour of the template may vary based on materials in stock when your order is placed.

As with any template, we strongly recommend you try the template on a spare piece of wood first to ensure it's compatible with your latch and cutter. If the latch face plate is a little tight, use a file or some sandpaper to gently remove some material from the inner faces of the jig.

Always secure the jig, then position the router carefully within the jig before switching it on. Equally, ensure the router has fully stopped before removing it from the jig. This will prevent damage to the jig.

We also offer a very similar jig for bathroom deadbolts and larger bathroom latches.

Please see our shop for other carpentry jigs for hinges, flushbolts, etc..
