A fixed height, adjustable width hinge jig allowing for easy fine-tuning of the hinge placement. Can be used on doors - or can quickly transform to a slim jig for use on door frames. Designed to be clamped (or screwed) to the door (or frame) and results in a perfect hinge recess. Lightweight and easy to use. Printed in durable PETG. All hardware included is A2 stainless steel. Select the height of hinge from the dropdown above when ordering.
Simply slacken off the bolts holding the fence and move to the correct location for the width of the hinge leaf required (there are notches along the edge to make this easier). Next, secure the jig in place using either clamps (against the fence) or if necessary (when being used on a door frame) use a couple of small screws through the face of the jig.
The jig is designed to be used with both a door and a frame. When used with a frame (where the architrave and doorstop are in place) the extension section at the back of the jig can be removed. This makes the deck small enough to not interfere with the doorstop. The extension is made up of two pieces; one of these is a slim fence. This fence can be used instead of the main (large) fence so as not to interfere with the architrave. The shorter bolts required to use the slim fence are stored within the extension (see photos).
The jig incorporates larger sections at both ends that allow the router to be placed into the jig whilst not touching the wood. The router can then be started (and stopped) without immediately cutting. This gives more control and avoids the cutter crashing into the jig. The jig feature a wide deck on all sides making it easier to keep the router stable. The deck thickness is 15mm making is easier to guide the cutter as the bearing is further down inside the jig.
Designed to be used with a 12-13mm template router cutter (such as the Trend 1/4" Template Profile Router Cutter 12.7 x 9.5mm shown in the photos). The cutter is not supplied with the template.
The colour of the template jig may vary based on materials in stock when your order is placed.
As with any template, we strongly recommend you try the template on a spare piece of wood first to ensure it's compatible with your hinge and cutter.
Always secure the jig, then position the router carefully within the jig before switching it on. Equally, ensure the router has fully stopped before removing it from the jig. This will prevent damage to the jig.
